Have you ever Wanted to Canoe the Butternut Creek

Come join the Butternut Valley Alliance and the Otsego County Conservation Association on this fun float down the Butternut Creek.

Bring your Canoe, Kayak or if even your SUP to float down the Creek.

This is a great, safe, family friendly event. Perfect for introducing kids to canoeing and the river. 

We will have a limited number of  Canoes and PFD available for those who don't have their own, Please register for the Float and make sure to let us know if your group needs a Canoe.

  • Is home to Hellbender Salamanders
  • Is one American Eel re-introductions sites in the Upper Susquehanna Watershed
  • The Butternut Creek is roughly 30 miles long (don't worry we are only paddling a ~4 mile section)

Things to Expect and Bring:
Life jacket / pfd for each person in a boat is required, Children are required to wear a the PFD at all times while canoeing.
This is a float on mostly slow moving water - good for kids and adults.
Bring your kayak, canoe or SUP (If bringing a stand-up paddle board you should have experience on Class 2 moving water)
Wear Shoes - we will have opportunities to get out of our boats to learn about some of the things we are seeing.
Bring water and snacks or a picnic lunch
Expect the float to take about 2+ hours
Come to the put-in at Baily Road in Morris in time to your drop canoe and then shuttle your vehicle to the take out - however shuttle will be provided both before and after the float.
